=======================
Theresa Iginla (31), sister of NHL star Jarome Iginla and serial one-puncher has struck again, this time in Queensland, Australia where it is alleged she assaulted a woman at a community event.
The victim, Vanessa James (42), said she was knocked to the ground when Iginla unexpectedly hook punched her as she approached the car Iginla was driving to ask her to slow down.
“Initially, I thought I had been struck by a man. That’s how scary this woman was when she launched from the car and came at me.” Ms James said.
The victim was left with permanent damage to her face, cuts to her mouth and suffering from post traumatic stress disorder after the coward punch.
Witnesses at the scene were surprised at the ferocity of the attack with Victoria Jones saying she was left shaken by the incident which was unprovoked and unnecessary.
One punch attacks receive a lot of media attention in Australia where multiple people die every year from this style of senseless assault.
Australian Psychologist, Georgina Fuller says for many victims, the impact of physical assault is severe and pervasive. “It can extend beyond psychological and physical injury and end up permeating multiple aspects of a victim’s life.” Fuller said.
Ms James has been unable to file charges against Ms Iginla due to the confusion around Ms Iginla’s gender.
Ms James’s lawyer believes the case is complicated but is confident his client will be able to press charges against Iginla.
“It all happened so quickly and I thought I had been hit by a man, so to discover it was by a woman was even more confusing.” James said.
Iginla is in Australia studying for her law degree at the prestigious Bond University on the Gold Coast and is expected to return to Canada upon completion this year.
